Well, a few quick things.

1) many re-issues have the letter "R" before a year, such as R1951. This would indicate a reissue produced in 1951. Classic examples of this are the Realart re-releases of the original Universal horror movies like DRACULA, THE MUMMY etc.

2) Often, a re-release is not full 4-color but a duo-tone or similar.Just one or two colors. Between the original Universal Monster movies of the 30's, and the Realart/Film Classics re-releases, Universal themself did sewveral re-releases of their own films in a green duotone.

3) Look for a different releasing company than the original. For example, Astor re-released some Monogram films. Realart and Film Classics re-released some Universal films.

The more you know about the originals,  such as if they were in 4-color, know the original production studio and the original year of release, the easier to tell a true re-release.

Hope this helps. Sorry for the horror slant but that is my collecting area! :-)

Hey MoPo:

Does anyone know how you tell a reissue lobby card from an orignal, other than by the possible difference in aging? Are reissued cards usually differently designed? Is a reissue card usually dated the year of the reissue? I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks, Barton
