Good morning all. Interesting poster related thread! No offense or digs
intended to anyone. That said, I would venture most of us out here don't have
$40,000 to spend on a lobby card. This buyer obviously has lots of spare cash,
and not the type of spare cash most of us would have. More likely than not,
spending $40 grand was pocket change to this person. I wouldn't glorify too
much what it means to the hobby. The buyer could just as easily toss it in the
pool or eat pizza off it when they get tired of looking at it, or it no longer
matches the decor. They didn't spend $10 million on a picasso .... It's a
trinket or a bobble to them. I doubt they took their kids college fund or house
payment and bought a lobby card. As to "real" collectors, I believe many on
this list would have treasured this card more, paying 1/100 th what this
person paid.
As to the greatness of live auctions, my Tobor one sheet netted me less after
fees and linen backing, than what I was offered directly from a mopo member.
So it goes and my 2 cents.
Have a good weekend everyone! Martin
