I recently got an email from a pal saying that Kirk Hemett, the lead guitarist from Metallica and a huge fan of horror films, especially the Universal classics, was the buyer of the Bela Lugosi oil portrait that was offered in a recent Heritage auction. He apparently paid a humongously obscene amount of money for it, but I think he can probably afford it. I also spoke with a seller a few years back who had just sold an INVASION OF THE SAUCERMEN 3 sheet to Tim Burton's girl friend, who was to going to give it to him as a Christmas present. I just ran across this quote from actor/super-star Leonardo di Caprio:
"I don't really have many extravagances. I don't fly private jets and I don't have bodyguards and I don't buy crazy things. I have a couple of houses here and there. I bought a very expensive watch, and I am going to buy a really expensive movie poster, the original for The Thief of Baghdad. I love movie posters."
Let's hope that Leo develops more of a love for movie posters. He and others with influence in the industry can do much to help preserve these historic treasures.
Has anyone on the list heard of any other stars or Hollywood "powers" who are poster fans??
