So, I take it this means that Eugene did not take Donnie up on his public offer to provide $500 worth of shipping costs so Eugene could immediately return the posters he is holding hostage? That's a shame. If he had, he might have salvaged something of his reputation and over time built back his business in this field. But who are we kidding here? Eugene has stolen these posters, and the money people sent his for the backing and restoration. If at some point he returns some of what he has taken, it will only be because he has been forced to, just as any thief whom the authorities or courts manage to get hold off is forced to return all or part of the money they have stolen.

I was going to suggest everyone go to eBay and file complaints against him en masse, but Eugene has resigned from eBay, apparently sometime at the end of October (at least under his old user name of "linenback").

If anyone sees any auctions for the type of services Eugene claimed to provide in the past on eBay under a new name, please let us know. Just like Joe DePrenda, I expect Eugene Hughes to pop back up on eBay at some point when he feels the heat has died down.

What is shocking is that his website is STILL operational at http://www.linenback.com -- if someone who knows how can find out the name of the hosting service that is hosting is website and publish it to this list, people could start emailing his hosting company with a bunch of complaint. Many hosting companies do not want to be involved with someone committing fraud and theft.

Obviously, all the good-hearted people who waited so patiently would have been better off to be not quite so forgiving and generous as they were during the last 6 to 9 months. If a community complaint campaign to eBay by not only those directly involved, but those concerned with the fraud he was perpetrating had been launched way back then -- all the negative feedback, and the outside possibility that eBay might have shut him down back then in the face of a barrage of complaints, might have saved the people who continued to purchase his eBay come-ons. As it was, as far as Ebay was concerned, Eugene received only 1 negative feedback during the last 6 months!

And I'm not trying to exploit the situation -- but I would like to remind people than when one of the sellers on www.MoviePosterBid.com had failed to deliver posters that were paid for and the 30-day mark was approaching, we urged the victims to file PayPal complaints, suspended the seller from our auction site, and went public on MOPO and Style B with details of the situation. Stuff like this has to be done, folks, as painful as it is sometimes. There are probably some sellers who decided they would never list on MoviePosterBid because I took such public action. That's their decision and I'll just have to live with it, but MPB is not going to contribute to this growing fraud situation by sitting back quietly and letting a problem on our auction site continue for months or years before doing anything about it.

This is why places like MOPO and Style B are so important -- and why it is kind of self-defeating for people like Ed Flood to unsubscribe -- because where else are you going to be alerted when something like this is happening? And we all know by now that it happens too often. You can't rely on the feedback system of eBay to warn you, that's for sure.

MOST IMPORTANT: There are still a lot of people who are having a problem (one approaching 30 days old), that they have earnestly tried to resolve and cannot. Most of these folks still seem to be shy about posting the details of such problems to MOPO and Style B. I hope this will convince them to step forward just before 30 days are up and let people know what is going on. And I hope those few members of MOPO who on occasion chastise a member for doing so will STOP IT immediately. At 30 days, if there is no attempt by the offender to fix the problem, then the sacrosanct dealer-customer relationship has been violated the offender is no longer entitled to keep the dispute private and it is time to go public. And MOPO and Style B are the appropriate places for such alerts. Like I said, where else can you go? What else can you do?

  Hi All,
I'm trying to get a hold of Eugene.  I still have not received my posters
and his phone number has been disconnected.  No response to email.  If anyone
can get a message to Eugene, tell him this:

"I will come to Texas and rip your eyes out unless I get my posters asap.
While I'm a peaceful guy, I do not like being ripped off.  I can get violent,
and I will.  So, return my posters, no questions asked.  Do not return my
posters and I will hunt you down like the animal you seem to be, and follow
through on my threat. You don't fuck people over in a hobby as small as this.
  I never forget."

any help by MoPo would be appreciated.

  Gary
