Since I was the underbidder on this poster, I guess I'd better comment.
Yes I was in a feisty mood when I bid on it, I wanted it and no doubt
about it, probably because I didn't win what I wanted in Bruce's VHP8.
(AAMOF, I was the underbidder on that Cat People as well.) And I would
have won the Rear Window for a 'reasonable' price as well, if one of my
frequent opponents hadn't placed a VERY high bid moments earlier. So, I
placed two more very high bids in the final seconds, and made him pay
through the nose for it. Yes, I would have paid a lot for it if I had
won, but I didn't.
BTW, it's not rare for dealers to ask $6000 or more for this piece, so I
hardly think the price is that out of line.
Also, I COMPLETELY agree with Grey Smith's comments about Cat People.
$4000? What have you folks been smoking? Just show me where I can buy
one at that price. The last time Bruce auctioned one was 1991, people,
and it went for $3300. Heritage has no record of ever having auctioned
this piece. Personally, I didn't expect it to go for less than $8000, but
was quite shocked that my drop-dead bid of $12000 didn't take it. So it
goes.
