[MOPO] WHY WOULD THE FIRST POSTERS FOR A 1947 FILM BE DATED 1948 ????

USA issue posters w/NSS serial numbers don't always match up with "recorded"
release dates.
The top examples (besides "The Best Years of Our Lives") are "The Graduate"
(68/26) and "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (64/1).
Oscar has a big hand in some of these "mis-matches," w/pressure to "qualify"
before Dec. 31 of each year.  The Graduate premiered in 1967 and Mad World
premiered in 1963.  Yet both films garnered main box office in '68 and '64,
respectively.
If you want contemporary proof (though NSS no longer exists), 2 of the 5
films nominated for Best Picture for 2004 (Million Dollar Baby and the
Aviator) are only just now in wide release.  But if you live in NYC or LA,
they premiered "last year."  "Sideways," "Finding Neverland" and "Ray" all
went through their major "runs" in 2004; the first pair have been
re-released on more screens (all because of Oscar), while "Ray" was released
for sale yesterday on DVD.
