I'm 100% behind Scott's position on no email attachments allowed on MOPO. The danger from them is very real -- even if you are running anti-virus software on your computer, because there's always the chance the attachment virus will be a new one your av software doesn't stop. Why risk it? -- it's not like we don't have dozens of places to go on the internet to find poster images. Yes, MPT allows them, but MPT is different from MOPO in that people go to the website and read the posts, therefore they do not download any attachment when they look at a picture on MPT and therefore there is no risk of infection. In the cases where the picture is unusual or hard to find, most people have found a way to let us have a look, either by putting it up on a webpage somewhere and sending us the address of the page or, hey, just post the picture to MPT and send us the address of the thread!

As for HTML, sure why not? So long as Scott can do it without a lot of trouble on his part and so long as allowing HTML through won't compromise security. But that's really a frill, isn't it? Fun with big type fonts and colored backgrounds, etc.? Will it improve the discussion-level on the list?

Subject: [MOPO] A wish for MOPO

If I had one wish for MoPo, it would be that we could move it
technologically forward a bit and allow attachments or
html.

Don't you think enough time has gone by so that most people's computers
could handle small files?

This is done at Movie Poster Talk, and I think it's a great thing.
