I love it when this debate comes up and have been responsible for it with my
questions on at least one occasion. My small collection of near-mint, late
50's-early 60's horror posters, remain in their original shipping
packaging(some for 2 years) after unfolding and viewing them just once. All the
while, I wait for a definitive answer on what to do next (prior to framing.)
I'm coming to the realization that the decision will ultimately be a personal
one. I'm not overly concerned about fold lines, or other slight imperfections.
I don't want them to look like repros or poster art, however, I'm worried about
sagging, ripples and other undesirable effects due to gravity and such that
might be inherent in unbacked paper. Thank you all for your expertise, but one
(possibly ignorant) question- Should posters, weather backed or not, undergo
some sort of de-acidification process for preservation purposes? Kenny
