films were pretty much complete when we used to see them back then.. but keep in mind, there were also only commercial breaks of afew minutes per hour si I think we used to get 28 total minutes of show to 2 of commercials.. Today we get 3-5 minutes of commercials in each break so TV shows are as short as 40-44 mins per hour. What used to be edited out were bloody scenes and that was pretty much it
