Hello

As someone who rarely bids in the 'big' auctions and isn't necessarily
concerned with ever amassing a large number of 'classic' pieces, I
congratulate anybody who helps elevate the hobby and can possibly bring some
attention to it. I like the idea of seeing the hobby grow because I enjoy it
and it's a good idea all around for the eventual selling or unloading of
pieces. I hope to always be able to find a buyer for a piece I no longer
want, profit or not.

I prefer to buy 'lesser' titles and although I do buy the odd 'prestige' type
piece, it's not so often. I would have realistically bid on three or four
items in the last Heritage if I'd had free cash. I may have won one, after
reading the prices list. Even fewer in Bruce's. They can get all the high
marks they want as they draw a different league of buyer and I am happy to
keep with the small group of sellers and dealers that I move about in and keep
my boxes of trash growing slowly that way. When I see the desirability of my
genres going up, of course I curse that I have to bid or pay more but I'm also
content knowing that there are other avid fans out there who will take my
place (and collection) when I move on.

Selling or trading for a profit is only important for me to the level that I
take that money (I've done it a few times...not very often) and shovel it back
into more posters, as I assume many of you do. However, I also assume that
eventually, like when I'm retired, I'll slowly sell my collection off as a way
of getting some money and continuing to meet other people who are as 'into'
this as I am. That's why I'm here and in debt for now. I feel fairly safe
about getting my money back and if more eyes turn to this type of poster, all
the better. I want to turn a profit if I can but I also want to see more
passionate collectors be happy when they buy my pieces. I don't fancy the
idea of selling to somebody who wants to simply turn the poster out for more
dough. I know there's a bit of a split there but that's how I generally see
it or hope to see it.

So, to sum up, I feel that big auctions (which have little collecting interest
for me) doing well can only help the hobby and I, for one, am for it. When
people don't want to buy dull old James Bond posters, then the hobby is in
trouble and people won't even bother listing the crap that I want. Then what
do I do?

All the best,
Michael
