Dear MOPO folk.
Hi from Joe Bonelli.
Just a quick note to clarify my medical thing and to thank you for the kind
wishes.

About two weeks ago I went through a series of nights waking up with sharp
stomach pains. I was afraid I was developing an ulcer.
Last Thursday I drove to Vicksburg (240 miles north and west) and consulted
with a doctor who participated in my full check-up in October and November. He
ordered tests for Friday and it was discovered that I had developed gall stones.
We agreed that sooner was better and I returned to New Orleans only to go back
(via train) to Jackson (40 miles east of VB) on Sunday. I stayed with friends
who took me to and from the train and hospital.
The gall bladder procedure was amazingly simple. Surgery is no longer
performed and the "punctures" and "sucking out" of the gall bladder took from 9
AM (taken in and knocked out) to 11:30 AM (waking up in recovery). At 3 PM I
was discharged and went to my friends where I (at doctor's orders) walked
around the house, ate a reasonable supper and slept like a baby. The next
morning I was deposited at MPB Radio where I used to work. I visited with
former co-workers, was offered a Saturday/Sunday job if I want it
(possible...hmm....) and driven back to the train by my former supervisor.
I arrived home at about 5:30 PM and a friend and I relaxed and watched THE
ROARING TWENTIES.
Wednesday I relaxed (feeling really tired from the trip, et. al.) Today I
plan to take it easy as well.
I feel sure I'll be back to normal in a couple of weeks at most but I do know
that I can't move or carry things now so that may put back my getting my
collection moved here for a short while longer.

Anyway, I am feeling much better and am continually amazed at the progress in
medicine that has been made since I was a kid in the fifties. This would have
been major surgery just a few short years ago. I'd have spent a week in the
hospital and a month convalescing. As it is, I think I'll be back in shape in
much shorter time.

Thanks to each and everyone of you who sent me a nice email. It's wonderful to
realize that through these lists and this hobby that I have made new friends
and acquaintances all over the world. Here's hoping I can meet and shake the
hand of each of you one of these days.
All my best,
Joe

PS-- A special thanks to Tom in Ohio who alerted the list to my situation. Tom
is one of the truly "good guys" on the list! Joe
