HI, Ralph, from Joe.

Oh I never meant to suggest that the "classic" movie thing was going to be the
biggest thing in the dvd business. Just that it is a healthy sign that these
studios are realizing the potential for the classic film and realizing that
potential by restorations and elaborately-produced dvd packages.

I realize that the most lavish dvd releases are for pictures like VAN HELSING.
Look at the several extra-laden releases of CUTTHROAT ISLAND. I wonder when
we'll see a documentary on one of these entitled, "How to Make a Truly
Execreble Movie." Seems like the bigger the critical dud the more elaborate
the dvd release. (But if that's true, where's that "Special Edition" of THE
ALAMO -- last year's most undeservedly tromped-upon film in my estimation. I
want to see what was on the cutting room floor!!!)

I'm just glad to see the extent to which the classic film is being served and
that the success of these releases prompt more.
Everyone who loves classic films, particularly on dvd, should stay abreast of
the latest by reading Barrie Maxwell's bi-monthly column on the website THE
DIGITAL BITS-- a site that really keeps one informed about developments in the
world of dvd.
Here's a direct link to Maxwell's columns:

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/barriemaxwell/index.html

I also urge readers who aren't familiar with THE DIGITAL BITS to go to the
homepage and check out the bevy of columns and information from latter-day
experts who care. I've found it to be a most informative resource for finding
out when and what's coming out on dvd.

All my best to all members and lovers of classic and "pop" films and their
posters!!

Joe Bonelli
