I was so surprised by the sudden passing of Louis. I agree with Tom, he was
just a really great guy. To be honest I couldn't believe he was 80 years old, he
was much younger at heart. I purchased several posters from Louis over the
years and had the good fortune of living very close to his Pacific Palisades
home and got to pick my posters up in person. To get the chance to go by his
house was a treat. He lived in a home that had been built by a very well known
architect, a very modern home with a beautiful entry way and glass doors with
gigantic artistic handles and an incredible view of the Pacific
Ocean. I went in person to pick up my posters because he had just an
amazing collection of posters and his main room was edge to edge of framed
posters, hundreds of them. In his living quarters he hung his prize, his
Lawrence of Arabia 6 sheet roadshow version. It was a beauty and, of course,
took up the whole wall. He did love movies and could talk about most any film.
He was such a sweet man and he will be sorely missed. When I heard the news last
Saturday, I couldn't get it out of my mind for hours and then days, but I
thought to myself what a way to go. After a long life doing what you loved
and in your sleep with all of your favorite movie posters around you. I hope
he's decorating heaven as we speak!

Hi Everyone,
This is Tom Hammond, Fontaine's dad. One of
the great pleasures of my life was the occasional visit to that most amazing
poster gallery in Pacific Palisades. I took friends there and they were
always amazed, even if they were not collectors themselves. I took
Fontaine there and she was blown away and inspired. Louis would ask
her if she had seen the movie of whatever poster we were looking at and if she
said "no" he would tell her how jealous he was that she would be able to
experience it for the first time. He said, "I'd give anything to be in
your shoes when you finally see it." The man loved films and I and
everyone else who saw his collection loved him for having assembled it and for
sharing his excitement and extensive film knowledge. It was always time
well spent. All that, and he was a nice guy, too. I'll miss
him.
Godspeed,
Tom
