It's true. I send out a bulk e-mail informational
advert for my work (people actively subscribe to it,
it's not spam) and invariably, people on AOL can't
receive it. Their spam filters are, shall we say,
overzealous.

If you're on AOL, please leave it. Or, at the very
least just get a yahoo or gmail account. (Hotmail
sometimes has this very same problem).
