thanks for your response, kevin. you stumbled upon the answer to a question i asked 3 months ago.
i own THE GREAT LIE bette davis insert, having bought it from a very, very reputable dealer 15 years, ago (thanks, Joe). it has that "shellac" finish you referenced. it is a golden yellow throughout, without border on a thinner crimped-type paper. i received a few comments at the time, and grey smith told me in a nice email that it is called "linen finish"----and clearly USA. someone suggested that my poster was australian, and trimmed........but clearly not. it says "country of origin USA " amd "vitagraph" on the bottom.
i questioned the poster, just because the poster is so different. truly beuatiful, unlike the one sheet duotone. ................so is it possible that this film of 1941 has 2 inserts??????????? ???????

Mike: There were Inserts issued by a private printing company with different artwork for I believe numerous releases in the 1930's & 1940's, these were known as "Other Company" inserts - I'm not sure why, it may have been they did not list their printing firm name on them. I had one for "Men Are Such Fools" (1938) which was printed on a linen type stock with what appeared to be a shellac type finish to it. Perhaps someone else on this group can enlighten us further to these "Other Company" Inserts?
