Basically, what is happening that most items on EBAY is junk and good stuff is priced way way too high. Shill bidding is a normal practice and still happening. I am seeing posters that appearantly sold for a high price, suddenly appear again in a few weeks and selling for a much lower price. Most of the buyers looking and able to afford higher priced items do appear relying more and more on dealers with fixed prices and life auctions. It does appear that most buyers for good stuff are dealers anyhow. I do not mind paying a premium for posters because it does save me a lot of time hunting them down. I still need to hunt but do not rely on EBAY only. There are still many dealers out there with amazing stuff.

David,
I'm not a poster seller, so I don't "resent" you for this practice, but I wonder, just on a theoretical basis... what factors are at work here when you can buy a fine-condition FORBIDDEN PLANET on eBay for $7,500 and two weeks later sell it on eBay for $11,500? That seems an awfully high appreciation for just two weeks. $4,000. And now you say you have yet another buyer who is willing to pay even more for one? Where were these two people two weeks ago when your were publicly buying one for $7,500 (for that matter, why were you able to buy one for $7,500 if there are all kinds of people out there looking to pay a whole lot more)? I'm confused.
Is it just the Russian roulette nature of eBay auctions at this point that allows this kind of thing to happen? I mean, when I sell my old pulp magazines on eBay there seems to be a free-market mechanism at work where the prices on highly-desirable items, particulary those in fine condition, simply don't vary a whole lot from week to week, or even month to month or year to year. Is something different happening with high-desirable movie posters on eBay these days?

"why would a mopo member sell you a fine copy for a lot less so you could pocket a huge profit or sell it again?"Why wouldn't they? Maybe someone will sell me one, maybe they won't.The one I just sold (for $11,500 by the way) I had just picked up on ebay two weeks ago for $7500.00. I'm sure there are others out there close to that price.I sold the one I had for auction on Monday after it closed. Then ANOTHER person just this morning asked me to find them one. They hesitated on the ebay auction I had that ended and now they regret it.I've proved I can get much higher prices for material than most people. I have bought items numerous times from many mopo members at their full retail price and then sold it for a nice profit. I've even bought from Kirby a few times (who has VERY high prices) and then sold for double. If you or anyone else resents me for it, sorry.David Lieberman
