I'll keep it short and to the point, rather then spouting off worn-out talking points. Sure I won't seem like an "intelligent" person (notice the use of the scare quotes...always effective, no?)  but that's life.   The post was about high prices in CA. Why are the gas prices higher in CA then the rest of the US?   Secondly, what is the downside to the US drilling in the places you mentioned?   Not complaining now, and not complaining the first time. The commodity futures market is the playground of very wealthy individuals, investment funds both foreign and domestic -- and, of course, the biggest players on that field,  the international oil companies themselves. The prices are not being driven up by the people who pump the oil from the ground. They are being driven up by the people who ship it and process it and distribute it to us.
