Yes, Michael, I think the seller should have clearly stated that it was
folded after paper backing. It's a clear condition issue. The main
reason one gets inserts and half sheets folded is to remove the folds
and allow the pro restos to do their work on any damage to the folds.

In the picture of the auction item, were not the fold lines visible at
all? If so, then I probably would have asked a question or two in
advance of the bid/buy.

I guess it's up to how much you want the poster, how much you paid, etc,
as to whether you return for a refund or not. I don't think you've been
duped and depending on the image supplied the seller may well tink he
provided enough "information". Personally, it is something I would
disclose as amatter of course in a condition report.

As for linen backing versus paperbacking "cardboard" such as 22s and
inserts... I think it's a matter of taste, and also the type of
"cardboard" involved. Some very thin paper can be linen backed
successfully, but some that heavy duty stuff they used on 22s in the 40s
simply defeats the linen and paperbacking is a best option. Of course
unless a poster actually needs linen or paperbacking, the why do it at
all. Cosmetic perfection through over-resto is something that's going to
come back and bite poster collectors/investors in the bum down the ytrack.

In many cases, posters simply need to be cleaned and deacidified. Of
course if it's a multi piece poster then line backing is the besty
option for display.
