Hello everyone

I would have been extremely unhappy to have found it has been folded too.

It could be considered rather remiss of the seller not to have mentioned it
as that really should have been a KEY point in the description. However,
he has offered to take it back.

I prefer paper-backing for smaller pieces myself. Although, I've seen 1
Sheets paper-backed and they have not turned into crackers !!!

Shelly

Michael
A poster that has been paper backed should never have been folded afterwards
and if that happened for unknown some reason then it should be stated
clearly in the description. If it was folded after paper backing then it
negates the whole process and if I owned the poster I would want to have it
rebacked. At least the seller has offered a refund so you might have been
misled but I wouldn't go as far as saying "duped". I think that a problem
with paper backing is that the posters become totally rigid after the
process. They are also very bulky to ship whereas a poster that can be linen
backed can be easily rolled. Its all a matter of personal taste but I prefer
linen backing to paper backing.
Regards
John

Subject: [MOPO] was i duped on ebay??? the paper-backed insert arrived

QUESTION: When a seller advertises that an insert poster has been
paper-backed, should he, also, have stated that the poster was folded AFTER
it was backed?

doesn't "backing" pre-suppose that it has been made to be flat and
remains unfolded from the time of the backing?? what's the point of
backing--linen or otherwise--if you are going to fold it?

specifically, i purchased an insert. the ebay description said it was
paper-backed. i was surprised to see the 3 pronounced folds on the
paper-backed poster. i believe that the folding has caused damage to the
fold lines, causing extra loss of paper. the poster does not lie flat on
the table, as any original, untouched or backed poster would.

the exact description stated (and i copied the description directly from
the ebay page: "Paper backed and in fine shape for a poster of this
vintage. Some specks of wear on fold lines. No pin/staple holes or repaired
tears at all. Bright colors...."

SO, DO YOU AGREE with me that the seller failed to disclose that the
poster was FOLDED??? (i have been told already, privately, by one of the
most respected MOPOers that i got "stiffed".
  -----------------------------------------------
For the time being, i will keep the seller's identity secret, but will
print below my email to him, followed by his response.

  I WROTE:

hi XXXXXXX: i rec'd XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX early yesterday, and delayed
writing so that i could take many looks at the poster and not speak
impulsively. i am very disappointed in the paper-backing. i have NEVER EVER,
EVER seen a paperbacked (or linenbacked) folded AFTER backing was applied.
this causes extra damage to the fold lines. your description stated
paper-backing. that was fine. but anyone who deals in posters knows that
that implies UNFOLDED. one NEVER folds a "backed" poster. i am sure that is
how you got the poster, but that should have been stated in descrip---and I
prob would not have bid. i am sure that the extra "specks" were caused by
the folding after backing was applied. the back side shows bumps by the
folds, caused by the folding. i do not understand some crinkling, which
should not appear in a backed poster. (also, suspect, that there was a
problem in left border from the top to bttm because of a line that appears.)
i await your comments. .......michael

  SELLER'S RESPONSE:

  Michael
Linen or paper backing doesn't mean that the
poster has never been folded. If it was rolled, I
would have noted it in the description and if
you had a question about it, you could have
e-mailed me. I will be more than happy to take
it back and offer it to the next highest bidder.
I'm not getting into any condition feud with you.
  XXXXXXX

I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR PUBLIC COMMENTS, and i do believe this is a very
worthwhile MOPO discussion.

  thanks
  michael
