I was in Louisiana, returning from the Memphis Film Festival. My wife, Wilene, and I had just stopped at a roadside eatery en route and heard the news over the diner's outside loudspeakers.

Ironically, the day before, Snuff Garrett -- legendary record producer, founder of The Nostalgia Merchant -- and my boss for seven years --  and I were with Felton Jarvis, Elvis' producer at the time, who was more than just a bit concerned about the rock & roll king's health and his unwillingness to record. I recall Felton bemoaning, "If he kicks tomorrow, we don't have a thing in the can."  He did and they didn't.

Subject: [MOPO] Where Were You 28 Year's Ago Today?

Where were you when you learned 28 year's ago today that Elvis Presley had passed away? That would be August 16, 1977.

Thanks! Tom Pennock
