Please note that prior to Michael leaving his negative
feedback, this seller already had 5 other negatives in the past six months
(!)
I think what Michael is saying here is that the seller
shouldn't "get way" with lying about the condition of the poster in his
description (and in the pre-bid emails which he and Michael exchanged)
just because he is willing to give a refund (minus postage).
I have to say I agree with Michael on this. Unlike most
people on eBay, he is willing to risk negative feedback himself to simply tell
the truth about the transaction. If more people did that, there would be far
fewer sellers who tried these less-than-honest auction descriptions in the
first place.
I know I'm tried of the "buyer beware" attitude that
prevails on eBay -- it's one of the reasons I started MoviePosterBid, to try
to create an environment where this kind of thing is far less likely to happen
(or to go unchallenged if it does).
The seller wouldn't refund the postage -- even though
he lied to Michael when he responded to his pre-sales inquiries about the
condition of the poster. And it would have cost Michael at least another $6.00
to send the poster back. So Michael would have been out $12.00 through no
fault of his own just to get his money back. That's a 12% loss even though
Michael did everything right, including writing to the seller prior to
bidding.
I personally appreciate Michael reporting the details of
this transaction and the final outcome to this list. I would love to see more
people -- both buyers and sellers -- standing up and doing the right thing in
public. We used to see more of this on MOPO, before this list got the
reputation (which I feel is undeserved and keep trying to dispel)
about being a place where "the sellers all stick together".

Michael
he offered to take it back you feel that
you got a good deal and you are keeping the poster END OF STORY
as a general rule, sellers who do not tell the truth on ebay seem to
generate increased bids. if you really want an "inexpensive" item,
doesn't an eager bidder ignore an isolated negative feedback??? i
find that too often sincere, good, nice buyers acquiesce to
disappointment, and leave good feedback.
below is (item number and actual feedback of) what now appears
on seller's account, yet MOPOers were made to understand
the facts clearer, and the opinions of the MOPO experts confirm that
seller acted improperly.
(i have been disappointed before. we all have. chats were
exchanged but we [buyer/seller] addressed resolved the issues without
any bad or neutral feedback. negative feedback is reserved for
limited "bad" situations, considering the totality of the
circumstances. this case warranted the feedback.)
