Obviously I can't speak about what the British postal service can and
can't offer and what dimension restrictions they might have (what, it's
a tube at least 48 inches long, allowing some packing at both ends and
linen ragging etc??) but some countries' post offices do have size
restrictions on what can be mailed via parcel post.
Shipping FedEx is never cheap, especially if you don't have an account
discount structure in place. I presume FedEx are looking at weight,
length and diameter of the tube?
$100 doesn't surprise me.
