It's not like complaining on a messgae board or list
service gets in the way of assigning blame for the
disgraceful way this has been handled by all levels of
our government. Now is exactly the time to look at who
is failing at doing what (while simultaneously being
thankful for having that ability).

I gave money yesterday, but I still have time to write
an angry rant. But thanks for suggesting it's immoral
to criticize the govenment. It's never the right time,
is it? 9/11 couldn't have been forseen (oh wait, we
had pertinent information floating around somewhere),
the disaster that is Vietnam II couldn't have been
foreseen (umm, anyone with a 12th grade education
could have told you that Iraq is rife with sectarian
divisions and that the idea of "being greeted in the
streets with flowers" is preposterous), etc. When does
this administration actually accept responsibility for
anything? Everything is someone else's fault. Once
again Bush's speech was too late, too uninformed and
lacked any semblance of the necessary seriousness or
gravitas.

Yesterday Bush said, "I don't think anyone predicted
the failure of the levees." Where has he been? This
has been discussed for many many years. Thankfully
some reporting of this is occurring and he's being
made to look like the ill informed buffoon he is.
Also, the failure of his FEMA is plain to see. For
some reason he picked a former estate lawyer to head
the organization. I'm not sure what sort of dirt
Michael Brown had on Bush to get this job, but it must
have been good.

It also seems to be that despite our govenment's poor
response to these events, Grover Norquist and his
other crazed anti-tax activists (anarcho-capitalists,
really) would absolutely destroy any ability for our
government to do anything about a large scale disaster
like this if they had their way and truly made the
Federal Govenment "small enough to drown in a
bathtub."

I don't think Bush or anybody in any level of our
current govenment deserves all the blame. Some must go
to those who served before and refused to show
leadership by drawing up proper plans, listening to
the scientists (and others) who predicted just such an
event, and who failed to sacrifice money to erect a
proper levee system (such as exists in the
Netherlands).
