Dear Tom,
Glad to hear it. We have discussed this situation with
oversize framing many times and it can be very costly, especially if you aren't
in Los Angeles or New York City. You can indeed order acrylic in that size. What
is no longer available in that size is UV filtered plexiglass. Normal matting
does not come that size also. You have to construct a mat out of foamcore and
wrap it in a fabric and that is the only way an oversize (above 40x60) mat can
be made. You can understand why retail frame shops charge so much, there is a
lot of labor involved. I just had someone bring in a two sheet Italian
linenbacked poster this morning. Completely archivally done, the cost was $175,
but that is wholesale. Remember, I do the framing for many retail shops that
don't do their own framing. They take my price and usually, at the very minimum,
triple it to their customers. Unfortunately, shipping oversize pieces is
not possible and I wish all my movie poster buddies lived in my neck
of the woods. I love getting to see everyone's collection. I've got several 3
sheets, Italian and French posters in here right now. So, the next couple of
weeks will be fun framing here at Hollywood Poster Frames. Hope everyone is
well.
Sue

Pace
I can't believe it. I found a framer that does excellent work on my
French "one panel" Grandes. I am taking two over to the frame shop per month.
Price is $600.00 per one panel. Sectional frames, all archival acid free
materials. Just recently got my first two one panels back and they are
superbly done with a turn around of only three weeks. Now the really good
part.
I was told by numerous frame shop's all over the country that my 1965
"Thunderball" French two panel could never be done. That it would be cost
prohibitive and that I could not get plexiglass in the 63" x 94" size. Well,
my new framer has looked into this and she CAN frame my two panel on linen.
Her supplier assured her that plexiglass will not be a problem and the mats
also will not be a problem. An inset wooden frame will be built on the back of
the poster to support it. Total price would be $1,600.00
I will have to get a professional mover. But hey it can be done!!! This
is also the last poster that Mr. Edelman restored and linenbacked for me. So
it is not only my favorite 007 poster but also means a lot since Igor Edelman
did such a superb job on the two panel.
Good thing's do happen in this upsetting world of our's.
