Y'all,
I have discovered that in all likelihood than NONE of our friends in the
disaster area will be eligible for the $2,000 "debit card" that FEMA is handing
out to some victims. Apparently if you have a place to stay (like with friends)
or can still occupy your house, or have the independent means to provide for
rented shelter like a motel that you don't qualify.
So, if you were holding off making a small contribution of your own to help
out Joe Bonelli, Fred Sliman, Ed and Sue Poole because it seemed like everything
was coming up roses, you might want to reconsider.
I will be making the distribution of the pooled donations within the next
24 hours. The way contributions have dropped off in recent days, there will
probably only be this one distribution.
Joe, of course, has still not been able to even get back to his apartment
since the storm hit. Ed and Sue were allowed back for a few hours to pick up
critical papers and survey the damage (and currently their house cannot be lived
in). I'm sure that even the small amount that this fund will provide for them
will help.
So, if you want to lend a hand -- the pooled money will simply be
distributed as "from your friends at MOPO" --
