Hi PJ and all

I never even knew the term 'foxing' before this poster.  Somebody else taught me the word on the other forum.  It basically looks like little mouldy freckles.  Since I'm stupid, I asked my friend who is a conservator in Calgary to give us the basic details about it.  Here's his terse reply:

There is still some debate as to what causes foxing,
basically it goes something like this: steel particles
leftover from the papermaking process are in the
paper. Foxing is either iron oxide corrosion or a
mould that grows on the oxide in the paper. Typically
found in last half 19th century, first half 20th
century wood pulp paper prepared in a masher, most
often found in books and prints of that era. Some
collectors actually like it. Cheap paper, dude.

So, there you go.  Maybe it's a selling feature to some!  Don't forget to include it in your descriptions...you may be missing enthusiastic foxing buyers.

PJ, the poster is still housed in these walls and is going nowhere fast.  She's a minty one.  Thanks for the heads up on the new Dr V site...I was recently lamenting the loss of his monthly tips and tales for collectors.  He's an asset to the hobby, no doubt, just like you.

All the best,
Michael

Nat, I'm with you here. I also need poster "foxing" explained. Mike, since you know what it means, maybe you can answer. How's my "teenager" doing up there? If you ever want to sell her back, let me know. Hey everyone! Mike Greenwood's walls! ...and one bed. http://planetmopo.bigtownfilmposters.org/id31.htm pj Yep, it's best to have DrV on your side. To have it otherwise would be inconceivable. The new House of Poe web site is up and running: www.HouseofPoe.Com - This time he's serious.

Re "foxing". I've seen it listed as a condition but I don't know what it
is.

I describe everything I can when I list movie paper. I've been on the
end of far too many dud gradings not to.

Natalie
