Rich,
A damn shame, really. No one can say you didn't give it one hell of a try
and commit plenty of bucks to the attempt. But, as we've discussed before, the
world has really changed... eBay is a big part of it, of course, but so are
demographics and the change in emphasis from paper to electronics and digital
entertainment. The video game industry pulls in more money in sales per year
than the *entire* motion picture industry does now. Meanwhile, the fixed monthly
costs of putting a bricks-and-mortar store out there have escalated beyond all
reason. Then you have so many shoppers who will never even consider stopping and
going into anything that isn't a giant mall these days. I love going into small,
unique stores that aren't part of a global franchise, but it seems not
too many other people do anymore. Putting aside esoteric stuff like movie
posters, I just don't see how any of the small stores out there can make it
these days, even in a crowded urban environment.
I'm glad to see you've come to the conclusion that life goes on and that
there's a whole lot of stuff you've been denying yourself because of the huge
amount of time, energy and money the store took up that you can now look forward
to.
But I'll miss the old world. They're welcome to this new one. Overall, I
can't say as I'm that much impressed with it.
