After about 20 years of collecting science fiction titles one poster
always eluded me. I was never in the right place at the right time. It
was always just out of reach and I watched the prices climb into the
stratosphere over the years. It is a poster from the quintessential
sci-fi film DTESS aka Day The Earth Stood Still. Any poster I would be
happy with but they all seemed unattainable....that is until last week.
I finally snagged a window card in fantastic shape just when I came into
a few bucks. Hey 20 years - the right time and right place was bound to
happen once.
Okay now I'm officially done collecting. I can stop. I can rest in
peace. I can stop looking at ebay on a nightly basis. Stop buying
auction catalogs and poster books. I can stop spending my money in a
foolish manner. I can stop taking down artwork and replacing it with
theater paper. I can finally stop lying to my wife - "I've had that one
for years honey". I can finally enjoy a steak dinner instead of chicken
soup because I'll no longer be broke from my hobby. I can stop.
Ahhhh hell this won't do...I cannot stop. I love the hunt. I love the
people. I love the posters. But as soon as Betty Ford opens a poster
wing I'll be first in line.
