Well said Ron - I could not agree more. Grey does a fantastic job and deserves good words said about him such as this.
My catalog is on the way and I looking forward to receiving it and reading some of the items descriptions you have contributed to. I just received my catalog from Heritage for their November 11-12 sale. As most of you know, Grey holds three auctions a year at Heritage and with every sale, I find myself astounded at how he puts such a great auction together. I also think, "Okay, that was great, but how's he going to do it again? There's not that much great material still out there." Well, I think it's safe to say, "He's done it again!" And before anyone accuses me of being too biased, (as they hire me to do some of their catalog lot descriptions), I feel I can honestly say that after 35 years in this hobby, I rarely see any other auctioneer that has amassed so much amazing material, and so much rare and "never auctioned before" material in each one of their auctions. For several examples, this sale has a Three Stooges color lobby card from "Meet the Baron" I had never seen in a prior auction. A copy of the one sheet for "Wings" that no one has seen before, the only copy of the "Crime School" three sheet known, the "High Sierra" three sheet, the Italian "To Have and Have Not" 4 folio, "The Black Pirate" one sheet style B and many others never auctioned before. If those don't do it for you, then there should be something else in the sale that can appeal to any collector out there. Seriously, there are just over 1000 lots in this sale which explains why they're holding it over a two day period. They've got the best Bogart collection in the world available and one of the best Hitchcock lobby card collections in the world. There are a lot of other titles that, while they have been auctioned in the distant past, they have rarely (if ever) been auctioned since. Some of those classics are the "Mark of Zorro" one sheet, the "Pinocchio" style B one sheet, the "Adventures of Robin Hood" style B half sheet, and some of the most amazingly "near mint" key early 1930's lobby cards you'll ever see! Actually, I had the chance to catalog a lot of those lobby cards. I had so much fun going through them I wondered if I should be paying them instead of the other way around. Same goes for that amazing collection of Douglas Fairbanks silent one sheets. Talk about white paper! Opening those was a stunning experience. I knew right then that I'd be spending the money I had made cataloging the lots right back on acquiring more classics for my collection. If you haven't called Grey about getting a catalog yet, you should. You'll want to keep a copy of this book to remember this classic sale by. I know Grey tries to put something for every kind of collector out there in his sales and I think he's succeeded admirably. You can check out their site and review all of the items in the sale by going to http://www.heritagemovieposters.com/common/search_items.php?Sale_No=624. Have fun! I know I will!
