Hello Al and Mopoers...et al.. Or... EH AL .. :)
We all make mistakes.... and sometimes as they say sh** Happens out of our
personal control that effects us and others around us... we can respond
negative or positive... doing the right thing can not always mean you will get
"at a boys" from thepublic or assocites.. However it will build your self
esteem when someone attacks your character
or purpose..
The other day My son a Budding filmamker borrowed the Universitys 16mm Film
camera a ARRIFLEX BL 16mm german camera... well he was shooting... and has
shot like 6 rools of 400 foot film.. when he was outdoors and the camera on the
tripod fell Over and Broker the viewfinder eyepiece...Now he had the choice
of handing the camera back and not telling the school what happened and have
his word against the next users word on what had happend
or face the music and tell the truth.... he fought with the choice all day.....
because he didnt want to be rresponcible..
And some people think it foolish to tell the truth as it does have
consequences.. as in this case.. he needed to get it fixed and it also gave
another
filmamker a week loss of use and made the school wonder if he may be capable of
useing the expensive gear...
So I called Arriflex... the part a small glass lens was 164.00 and my son has
alredy spent 1000.00 in film after selling off stuff on ebay and gited
money from Mom and Dad.. Then I remembered that one of my customers InNYC was a
camera repair shop... so we called and they had a complete finder for
250.00 and were willing to trade for Products I make the Clapperboards slates.
So we were able to turn around and have back the camera over a weekend as
thepart was fed exed in/
The point is.. My son went in alone and told the film teacher and tech people
that he had watched the camera fall over
and break.. and wanted to tell themthe truth..
as he came out of the Building he gave me thumbs up and said Dad honesty is the
best policy...so in a way..he learned
a great lesson from a very sad thing..
also.. I plan to deduct the cost ofthe finder from his future ebay ales so he
will see that there is a cost and will take extra
care to see the tripod is locked down when he sets up camera..
so the point is..adversity can help us understand others adversity and when we
learn to see the pain in others we
can become more compassionate and understanding when we have similar situations.
Its hard to follow this however, It does seem that history has shown it the
best way to conduct business.
best to all.
Tom
