Title: Re: [MOPO] Suez....yippee!!
Susan,
I'm so happy for you that the experience of acquiring your dream poster was filled with meaning, surrounded by friends and family. You've expressed the heart of a special "collector's moment", a well-deserved experience I'm sure you'll cherish. I hope you have many more! Thanks for sharing.

Hello All,
Well, as you have heard I am now the proud owner of the Suez, style B one sheet and the framing is in progress on the back table as we speak. I had to take down my Shirley Temple Bright Eyes to make room.  It was so much fun to see all my old pals. Many of us live right here in the same town and don't get to actually see each other often as we are so busy.  I have to thank Walter publicly for not bidding against me on the Suez as that was one of the items he had planned to bid for. While Grey Smith and I have talked on the phone to one another for years, we had never actually met in person. As always good to see Freeman and my good buddy Glenn sat with us. Toochis was only there for awhile but we managed to get in a little chat.

It was a special auction for me with this particular poster. For many years Louis use to say that one day if he ever sold Suez I would be the first person he called. I have been in this hobby for so many years that, while I am always happy to acquire a new poster that I like, I don't think I get as excited as I did when I first began collecting. I have to tell you, though, the combination of searching for this poster for so many years (ever since I first saw it in the Reel Art book, I could never have afforded it then and certainly never thought I would own it), knowing Louis and having that history there, the nervousness of buying such an expensive poster, the fact that other dealer friends graciously did not bid against me, etc., etc., when the gavel came down and they pointed to me with my paddle up (I never put it down from the time they said "Suez"), tears began to well up in my eyes. As people clapped for me, I looked at my partner Susan and she was crying too. I am not prone to crying normally. I will never forget that experience and I haven't felt this way about my hobby in a long time. Corny?......... you bet!!
