Didn't some people get their knickers in a knot when Peter Finch kissed
Murray Head in SUNDAY, BLOODY SUNDAY.... didn't they get their knickers
in a knot when Alan Bates and Oliver Reed had that nude wrestle in front
of the fireplace in WOMEN IN LOVE?

You know, the list is endless, with several others that Evan has just
also listed.

It's always the same sort of people that get their knickers in a knot
about such subject matter, or not that much further back thinking that
white and black people shouldn't be seen in romantic situations in films.

Always the same sort of people. Small minded, intolerant, prejudiced
people... whatever those prejudices may be to another human being based
on their religion, skin colour, race or sexual preferences.

Go stick a pin your eye, Andy. I doubt it will make you any more blind
than you already appear to be.

All this talk sounds as if Brokeback Mountain were something shocking
and new in mainstream film, but what did the general public think of
films such as Suddenly, Last Summer, Reflections In A Golden Eye, The
Children's Hour, Boys In The Band , etc. and so on. Did they have a
straight viewing public? Were they considered "special interest"
films? Just got back from seeing Brokeback an hour ago. Nothing
shocking or new here... slow moving, subtle, beautifully filmed, and
with a brilliant reflection of the human condition. The greater
majority of the audience was opposite sex couples. I did not see
anyone walk out of this film until the very end.
What did the public say about the above films when they were released?
How much has the theater going public changed in the last 40 years? I
was not reading film reviews back then...anyone here able to share
public reaction to any of the above films?
Later, Evan
