There is an online payment service started in 2002 that seems like it may be a very good alternative to PayPal, with lower fees... it is international, but I don't know if it is available to all countries -- but it is definitely something *everyone* should take a look at. It is not a good thing for PayPal to be the only game in town:
https://www.pppay.com/ It may turn out that http://www.ccnow.com is the only option for people in some countries -- but I would cautious: ccnow charges a full 10% on U.S. sales and 11% on out-of-the-US sales. That's very, very steep. More than twice what PayPal charges, even with their international fees.
