This afternoon, a previously unknown ebay buyer did
BUY IT NOW on two items I had just listed, a THIS ISLAND EARTH one sheet for
$1,745 and a LADY EVE lobby card for $745. NOTHING about this transaction
looks right to me.
I am OK with the fact that he has zero
feedback. Everybody has to start somewhere, although I am not wild about
the fact that he just registered with ebay today.
Here is where the red flags go off: He is in
India and the address which he has registered with ebay is obviously very
incomplete.

honey, CH 98706 India Then he sends me this email:
I am interested in purchasing you item and i am ok with buy it now price,i
will like to know if you accept a UNITED STATE POSTER MONEY ORDER OR UNITED
STATE CASHIER CHECK as a mode of payment and if you will be able to wire
transfer the remaning balance to the shipping company in united kingdom via
western union money transfer after you might have cash the check and after you
might have deduted your own part of the money since i will be taking care of the
shipment through my shipping company in UNITED KINGDOM. Kindly forward me your
contact NAME and ADDRESS including you contact PHONE NUMBER so that i can
forward the check as soon as possible and get back to you to be awaiting for the
payment.
As readers of past postings should know, one of the
standard techniques of international fraud rings is to send you counterfeit
cashier checks or money orders which always are for more than you are owed, and
then to require you to send them a refund of the "difference."
I responded:
Dear Sir
I will NOT be OK with sending you a wire transfer of any remaining balance. If you are going to send me a payment, it must be for the exact amount. I hope that you are an honest person, but the email which you have sent involves a standard technique of international fraud. I recommend that you use PayPal. If you do not intend to do that, then the transaction must be canceled. Walter Reuben I have no intention of proceeding with this
transaction. Can anyone on Mopo advise me as to how to contact ebay's
fraud division? I know that they barely care, but still...
Also, could someone give me the link to where I can
block an unwanted bidder on ebay?
Walter
