Saul,
If you're not going to use an image manipulation program to resize your
image (like Photo Paint, Photo Shop, or dozens of others), then 640x480
pixels with the finest quality setting is the best way to go for use on the
internet and for auction pictures. With decent lighting on the poster, you can
get a pretty good picture that will be large, but not so large that most
computers and websites will choke on it. That's basically the resolution of a
standard television picture.
That's not the truly best way to go, however. The best way is to
shoot at higher resolution (still using fine quality mode), take the picture
from the camera into your computer, open it in an
image manipulation program and then resize the image down to something
more manageable for auctions and web pages. The higher resolution of the
original will be translated into the smaller image, resulting in much
greater detail than you would get just going with a standard 640x480 right out
of the camera. You can also use the image manipulation program to adjust the
brightness and contrast before shrinking the original down to help
compensate for any lighting of the poster which may not have been ideal.
But doing this requires an additional couple of steps that many people don't
want to go through, and so 640x480 is the best option for them.

Fellow MoPo-ites,
When you are taking digital pictures of posters
so that you can include them in your eBay, Movieposterbid, etc. auctions,
WHICH SETTINGS ON THE CAMERA do you use? My guess is 640 x 480 at a
superfine setting, but I might be wrong on this. Obviously, those who
want to hide blemishes to the poster might want even lower settings.
Anyway, what are your thoughts?
Medium 1 (1600 x 1200 pixels)
Medium 2 (1024 x 768 pixels)
Small (640 x 480 pixels)
Thanks in advance for any
suggestions.
Saul
