Hi Tom,
The reason I had said the price was good is that it would be
more expensive here in Los Angeles and you are lucky, being in a small town,
that she can get it for you. A mat is not necessary if you are using acrylic.
Mats are typically for decorative purposes anyway and never really act as a
spacer as some people claim unless it's on an 8x10 photo or something small, but
there is no need to use matting as a spacer when using a high grade of acrylic.
The back frame is a necessity on a frame this size as it acts as a support and
that is why I suggest putting the strap hangers for hanging the frame on the
back frame and not the actual frame. Do not put a hanging wire on this frame,
but rather have the strap hangers positioned upwards on each side of the back
frame and hang with two nails or hooks. This lends better support to the frame,
anchors it better on the wall and causes no stress on the corners. So, there
you have it. Good luck.

Subject: Re: [MOPO] Archival Framing
Prices For French Posters?
Hi Sue:
Yes, a back frame was mentioned to me by my framer. I think the
price reflects this. But very happy to hear that you being in LA and all feel
it's a good deal. Yes, she mentioned that the acrylic would have no UV
filtering properties. This would just be for protection of the poster. I
wonder if a matte would be necessary? Probably not but for just looks.
You know the thing is she really has me over a barrel here. I live in the
small town of Battle Creek where the framing shops want everything dry
mounted. Pretty typical. I tried to have these French posters done here but
went to Kalamazoo because no one could do them here in the cereal city. So now
I have this good framer in Kalamazoo and I guess you could say "I've
Gotta Gal In Kalamazoo :) She does really good work and peace of mind has been
great on the one panels. She can pretty much set her price. Where else would I
go???
I appreciate your opinion Sue on the price. Sound's good.
Best, Tom
