LOL - I would say Material Girl...... I personally don't rate her new videos
much, she looks a bit like a man in drag (Did I just say that? I only meant
to think it)

My favorite Madonna video is PAPA DON'T PREACH.

Scott,
Why are you surprised at me? I said that if what one really wanted
was to ask
people about was how they got into poster collecting, why not ask
*that*
question, is all. How people got into the hobby is an interesting
subject --
and that's what a lot of people have gone on to talk about in the
process of
revealing what their first poster was. But just asking for a people
to list
what their first poster was -- which was what the question asked --
didn't
strike me as being particularly interesting. If the question had
been framed
as "how did you start collecting movie posters?" my response would
have been
completely different... in fact, I would have told my "how I got
into this"
story (again). Perhaps I didn't read between the lines of the original
question. I dunno.
I do think there is a danger to these kind of "polling" questions
if they
start coming fast and furious. You can end up with lots of people
jumping on
the bandwagon, each one trying to come up with their own "What
is ..." or
"What was..." polling question and end up with bunches of replies
on such deep
topics as "What is your favorite Madonna video?" etc.
But a question like, "how did you start collecting movie posters?"
would be
just fine with me. I too have enjoyed the responses from people who
have used
the "first poster" question as a spring board to actually tell us
their
how-I-got-into-this stories.

Actually I've enjoyed reading the replies to this question. Sure
beats an
endless parade of eBay announcements (no offense meant to you
eBay'ers!).
Since many of us in this community are "aging baby-boomers" (don't
you just
hate that description?) learning about everyone's "first poster"
takes me
back to a different place and time--One with a lot less stress and
much
lower poster prices. :) This "first poster" question does also
open up the
discussion about how you got into collecting, even if its not overtly
stated--so what's wrong with that?
I'm surprised at you, JR. :)
Now let's return to those wonderful eBay ads....

A lot of leading theme questions lately. Is it a virus or what?
While some
theme questions can bear interesting fruit, I'm not quite sure
why anyone's
first poster would be of much interest to anyone else... unless
one is looking
to elicit stories about how people got into collecting movie
posters in the
first place. In which case, why not ask that question?
