funny story.. In 1966, comic dealer Ken Mitchell asked if there would
ever be a $200 comic book. The following month Howard Rogofsky listed
a Superman #1 for $300. Everyone laughed at him.. The more things
change..........
anyway, my first poster was Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, then a lobby
set for Day the Earth Stood Still.. I got them in 1967 when I was 10
from my old friend, the late Mark Carducci - screenwriter of
Pumpkinhead. I don't have them anymore.. sold them by 1970. I also
got two 6 sheets not long after from author Richard Bojarski. They
were Universals!! Invisible Man's Revenge and Dead Man's Eyes
original release. I sold the Invisible poster in 1989 or so to good
ol' Brucie.. But I still have the DME

I'm not certain it's the first poster I ever bought, but it may be,
and it's the first poster I remember buying. At the Columbus
Cinevent in 1970 I paid $175, for a stone lithograph 1-sheet of
Charlie Chaplin's one reel short, CRUEL, CRUEL LOVE. It was
Chaplin's eighth film, released March 28, 1914. His first film had
been released February 2, 1914, just 52 days earlier. It is the
earliest extant Chaplin poster that I know of. (I have seen a stock
poster that advertises an earlier short, but that might have been
printed at a later date). The poster shows a "pre-tramp" Chaplin,
romancing his leading lady. I remember the purchase vividly,
because some fellow film buffs, mercilessly ridiculed me for
spending so much money for a poster! Why, I could have bought a
16mm print of the film for less money! I still have the poster.
