The First time I even was aware that movie posters were something of interest was when I walked into a book store in Northhampton MA and on the wall was a MY DARLING CLEMENTINE; THAT BEAUTIFUL LITHO WITH HENRY FONDA..........GORGEOUS BROWN TONES, AHHHHHH! LOVED IT!  I had been around posters all my life being raised in a small town movie house (theatre), but, I was young and didn't really care much. However, this was a bit later'; was late 60's early 70's and it got my attention! Anyway, I bought it for $40 bucks and I'm sorry to say I do not have it any longer.............THE ALMIGHTY $ GOT TO ME!  On the other hand, I sold it for 1% (around that) the going rate today for it......Always kicked myself for not keeping that poster, not because value, but...............the absolutely gorgeous graphic.

My first poster was a US insert from the 1954 Warner Bros' release, A STAR IS BORN with Judy Garland. My friend Al in New Orleans offered it to me and I bought it. 
Later I bought a few more posters from-- then his entire collection, which consisted of many US ones, halves and inserts from 50s CinemaScope films. 
Even later I discovered Ebay and  began bidding.  One day I ran across MOPO. 
 
Wonderful hobby filled with interesting folk from all over the world.

Actually I've enjoyed reading the replies to this question. Sure beats an

endless parade of eBay announcements (no offense meant to you eBay'ers!).

Since many of us in this community are "aging baby-boomers" (don't you just

hate that description?) learning about everyone's "first poster" takes me

back to a different place and time--One with a lot less stress and much

lower poster prices. :)  This "first poster" question does also open up the

discussion about how you got into collecting, even if its not overtly

stated--so what's wrong with that?

I'm surprised at you, JR. :)

Now let's return to those wonderful eBay ads....
