Hi all!
I'm a new subscriber to the list, and I just wanted to say that so far the discussions are very interesting and enjoyable.
I currently am serving as guest curator for the art gallery at the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction at Indiana University. I have been working on an exhibit entitled "Sex in the Cinema." The show includes posters, lobby cards, stills, etc. for films that deal in some important way with issues of sex, gender, or reproduction, whether in Hollywood films, independent, exploitation, sexploitation, adult, or pretty much anything else you can come up with. The exhibit just started last week and will be up through about mid-April. Just wanted to extend the invitation to folks that if you are in the Bloomington, Indiana area, you can set up a tour of the exhibit with the Kinsey Curator of Art, Photographs, and Collections,
Catherine Johnson-Roehr--or let me know, and I might be able to arrange it.
We are also going to put scans of some of the objects online in a month or so for people who can't make it to Kinsey. Once the site is up, maybe some of you could help us with your expertise to expand our research on some of the items--many items are from exploitation and sexploitation films, and thus, it's difficult to find out too much information on them.
Just so you know, Kinsey also is always taking donations of materials to keep in its permanent collection, particularly cinema materials involving sex. We are working on making this exhibit into a traveling show, so we'd love to see the collection of cinema materials expand. If you can establish the value of items, the donations can be tax deductible.
If you want more information on any of this, feel free to conta!
