You are right on Tom, we have talked about this before. Both paper and the
linenbacking materials are susceptible to humidity changes. The main reason I
don't use a mat on larger paper is for this purpose. When you have a space
between the poster the the plexiglass, you allow for this very thing to happen.
I do get an occasional wave in my three sheets, but that clears up in a day or
two when the weather becomes warmer. One way I have found to alleviate this
problem is to double back the frame. For instance, if you are using a metal
frame, put an additional piece of foamcore in the back. Remember, the foamcore
and the matting are also susceptible to moisture in the air. The only way your
poster can buckle is if there is some space behind it that is allowing it to do
that. The spring clips around the perimeter of the poster is not enough to keep
everything flat in oversize pieces. Good Luck and, as always, feel free to call
me directly with any problems. I would be happy to help with some tips.

Subject: [MOPO] Buckling On Larger
Linenbacked Posters
I might have brought this subject up before. I am having 10 French one
panels professionally framed. Now I see my"Viva Las Vegas" one panel has a
major buckle in it going across the bottom third of the grande. I don't
think this can be prevented but it kind of drives me a little crazy. The
posters are suspended at the top only and allowed to fall straight. Once
linenbacked do these buckling posters have a memory? I talked with Dan Ly up
in Toronto. He was having the same problems with his large posters.
Temperature changes do cause this I believe. I wonder when it get's spring and
summer if the posters will go back to being flat? Does this bother anyone
else? The frames have spring clips and also a mat.
Thanks!
