Truly sad news indeed.  He was so wonderful.
 
My favorite Knotts persona was the "nervous" man-on-the-street on the Steve Allen Show-- pre-Mayberry.  He would shake and quake and when off-screen interviewer Allen would ask him if he were nervous, he'd immediately snap almost to totally-still attention and say, crisply, "Nu!"
 
I'm sure the whole Mayberry family is mourning his passing tonight.

While I, like most everyone,  loved and still loves Knotts as Barney in!   "The Andy Griffith Show," my favorite Don Knotts performance was in "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken." Atta boy, Luther!
