Now I know whyall those retireee Museum Gaurds follow me around when I
go to a Museum..
I admit soemtimes i have a Urgeto Fling myself at art objects like a
Giant piece of velcro... But who doesnt??
reememebr several people have trie dto hack the Pieata Up in Rome.. Now
thats art abuse..
Our Gaurds at Toledo Art museum can hardly stand let alone stop someone
.. sometimes I though I was looking at a statttue.. It was a 80 year
old " Gaurd" Howevere maybe there are pretending to be 80 as a stealth
approach and If I got close to the art they would be all over me Like
Bruce Lee..
Maybe Ill go to the Art Museum and see.. we have one of the Finest
museums In the USA and hosted the Only El Greco exhibit,,
and our Zoo and a Panda exhibit..... Ifthat kid woulld have been at the
Zoo he may have beeen LUNCH!
Our Polar bears once ate a man because he Got to close to the arera....
Hows that for a Day at the ZOO?? we dont mess around here
in Toledo...

Tom.. if you go most museum around the country, you can walk right up
to any piece of art except statuary, which is kept at a distance so
they don't get , in particular, knocked off their pedestals resulting
in breakage. Few paintings in any museum are roped off. This is true
at galleries also. Very admired pieces like the Mona Lisa are roped
off.. but that painting had been stolen twice in it'
s history which is why it is protected. In the 1910's an Italian
cobbler stole the painting to repatriate it to Leonardo's home state.
During his "ownership" of the painting he actually kept it under his
bed while he tried to bargain with Italian officials who later turned
him over to French authorities. After serving a reasonably short
prison term of 2 years, he returned to Italy and was actually hailed
as a hero for his attempt.
one truth is that to be properly enjoyed, paintings need to be
studied up close as well as at a distance. "How did the artist apply
his paint" or "how think was his brush" are questions that an art fan
can only answer from close examination
none the less.. removing the gum stain will be a very easy task and I
would say this is more of an embarrassment than a catastrophe
