Hello Everyone –
The most deserving film usually doesn’t win the top award if you look at the Academy’s past. BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, which will certainly win, at least was controversial and challenged many audiences and their perceptions. At least it’s not an embarrassing choice like 1952’s THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH. I agree with Dave Kusumoto that among the nominees, CAPOTE is the most daring and deserving of the award. That said, I would have included the disturbing MATCH POINT as a front runner instead of the mediocre CRASH, which spoon fed and played down to audiences. If the awards had a sci-fi category, I would nominate CRASH as best sci-fi film of the year as it strains credibility from beginning to end.
