Dear Tom,

I know you feel uncomfortable about having the piece out of your hands but I'd trust Freeman with my best pieces anytime.  He has been more than trustworthy with me and is simply one of the good guys.
All my best and hope you get the situation realized soon.

Take care.

Thanks everyone for all the great deas... Im feeling like theres some hope.    Freemans right whan he asked me to send the oscar I was steadfast in saying No.... I said I would take any measurement, weight.
and other criteria However I knew once it was out of my hands I had no way to prove i ever owned it as  thats the problem with Oscars is the Academy wants on! ly the recipents to have them except that Pre 49 can be bought. however some people lost there Oscars  and had replacements
so when they received replacements they signed contractual aggreements to give academy buyback at 1.00 As Sid Luft, Judy Gralands Husband Found out when he went to sell a Judy Oscar she had had one replaced tha twas lost.

I am sorry Freeman that I didnt feel comforable..  Howeverit wasnt personal... all interestedparties where also told cash on the barrellhead because i couldnt see recourse.  and I also stated in my ad on ebay certifed check and would have waited till it was cleared... see  what  Ive seen is that there are people on ebay some that want to Buy under the table so they try to discredit the item to get a better deal... and those that will just steal it..
I have a   very very interesting story behind how I actually received the Oscar and Emmy... its like a storybook tale and Ive never told people
becau! se it sounds rediculous  and unbelievable... But like 90% of my life...and You people have been a Big part if not only family I have had...
youve heard my woes. Love life, and all.. so thats why Im here as even though Like a family Im askingfor wisdom..... Like Freeman,   I know its hard to tell from my jokes if Im serious because whimsical  and frightning things happen in extremes,,
Ive been trying to get a new balance on life so this Oscar deal would have helped.... But  none of mydecisions have been easy in last few years.. I put it on ebay as Freean and several others needed data that I just dont think will ever surface like whios it was. and  if thats needed

its a wash.... as far as value I offered opening Bid on ebay at 7500.00  for the Emmy and Oscar. and felt that this would inpire peopel

I had several ask if I would sell direct but I just wanted to do the fair honest thing. But I am fighting because I think the acade! my is saying it may be bogus as a ploy..  I guess they dont want to validate it as then it would be saleable. I just didnt think it fair to suggest it was stolen or bootlegged   But I guess they needed to do whatever they could to stop the sale... I called the atty and he hasnt retrned my call or email..
i guess busy with the awards.

allof youhave offerd great Ideas.. and once ive thought it over maybe we can get a positive solution for all.. Many peopleon ebay seemed to feel that 7500.00 was fair//

Maybe Freeman you  were right after all. I am listening to everyone

best, Tom

Freeman  here,
As Tom knows I was investigating his Oscar for several weeks as to its authenticity and market value for a very motivated client.  While there are still some questions I have about the piece that could have only been satisfied having the piece in hand for a thorough examination,  something he curiously would not allow nor would he stand behind its authenticity with a money back guarantee if on the very slim chance it was evaluated as something less than authentic.  That wasn't really the deal breaker but certainly contributed to my client bowing out.   The other overriding issue was the lack of a base plate.  No one I or my client talked to in great detail felt there was any tangible value anywhere near the ten thousand dollar price for the world famous  statuette.

So donating to the Academy would certainly be a magnanimous gesture,  but I certainly would pursue some advantage with taxes. But that might prove a tricky deduction as you can only deduct dollar amount paid over its recognized price which I believe is less than $700.   To ascertain an appraised value would be to have it evaluated by a licensed appraiser in such matters but again that would require sending the  piece most likely here to LA. And after numerous persuasive and earnest  emails I could not get that to happen.  Nevertheless my opinion of Tom was raised to the highest notch as he gave new meaning to the word "intransigent".
