I agree with most of what you say in your post, even though I would
rate most of these films you mention lower than the 5's 6's & 7's you
give them.
Most especially King Kong, which to this Kong fan was such a
disappointment I can't hardly put it into words. I thought that Peter
Jackson, who's repertoire of films are so much higher on the
scale, had such a great opportunity to make a great film that I
can't imagine how me made this turkey
first of all Jack Black is a joke.. he had no place in this movie.
Adrian Brody - possibly the best actor in the film, hardly had any
time to really give it all because his role had been massacred
into multiple roles for multiple actors. The "love" interaction
between Naomi Watts & Kong was outrageously stupid & entirely against
the story. The stupidity of the brontasaurus satmpede was entirely
unbelievable (and out of place considering Peter's knowledge of
dinosaurs) and the Kong against 3 Tyranasaurs fight was was not just
unbelievable - it is impossible -. Tyranasaurs are believed to be
solitary beasts as they would easily take on each other as meat if
they were to run across each other. Moreover the 3 Tyranasaurs are
without a doubt far more formidable than Kong and there isnt any way
Kong could prevail in a fight of this nature.
Plus how in the world are we supposed to believe that when Kong & the
tyranasaurs fall into a chasm that 2 tyranaoes & kong are supposed to
be able to hang from loose vines above the floor of the chasm? Or
that when Kong is bitten several times on his forearms and we hear
bones breaking that when the fight is over that Kong seems to have no
lasting wounds or any visible pains.
In NYC, Kong jumps & swings from skyscraper tops. Apes do not swing
from trees in this manner as no trees can hold them in the jungle
doing this. Apes lumber slowly from tree to tree looking for strong branches.
These were just some of the foibles of this film. In movies the credo
is "suspending disbelief", but in Kong so many things are just
entirely unbelievable and if I were to give the film a rating on a
scale of 10 it would be 4 and all those 4 points are based on the
effects as the story & acting in general- sucked.
Peter Jackson should hold his head in shame over this film,
especially on the heels of the masterful Lord of the Rings trilogy
which should rank among our greatest films. But he will stand proud
as many of our younger generation - whom this film was obviously
aimed at - think the film is great & have helped it achieve nearly 1
billion is ticket sales. I tell you now.. I will own the DVD for the
DeLaurentis film before I ever buy this one.
