Ron, I really don't know what you're talking about here? I didn't say anything negative about Heritage... in fact I think I said that Grey does a fantastic job of organizing, staging and publicizing them. All I did was just expanded on your tutorial with some additional explanations about the same auction -- after all, it was you who suggested that some members of MOPO might have trouble figuring out how to register and bid with Heritage. I thought this was an admirable thing to do... and so I decided bring up and clarify some other things about Heritage that might also cause these same MOPO members some confusion, such as the buyer's premium (but I botched that... it's so confusing...) and explaining how the internet auctions don't really "end" -- they continue on the live floor the next day.
I was just trying explain some of the things that you didn't put in your helpful tutorial. It was you who called this subject thread a "tutorial", wasn't it? So, now I'm confused. Why do you seem upset with me for adding some additional explanations to your tutorial? I even quoted directly from Heritage's web site to make sure I had the details right. I mean, it seems to me that if some members of MOPO were having trouble figuring out something as simple as how to register with Heritage and bid on the items then, surely, those same poor bewildered souls would need further tutoring on more difficult concepts like buyer's premiums and how winning online doesn't necessarily really mean you've won. You asked me " Are you seriously going to sit there and accuse the rest of the people in the hobby of being so feeble minded that they can't take the buyers premium into account?" No, I would never suggest that. But it seems to me that you seriously suggested that some MOPO members are so feeble minded that they needed a tutorial in order to figure out how to register with Heritage. Buyer's premiums are more complex than filling out a form on the Heritage website (at least to someone as feeble-minded as myself). And that idea of winning online, but not really winning... now, there's a real brain twister for you... I trust that when Bruce holds his next registered-bidders only auction that we can count on another helpful tutorial from you on how to register and bid on those? -- JR ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ron Moore" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 11, 2006 17:16 Subject: Re: [MOPO] Heritage tutorial for Auction > Um, Gee... JR... since MoPo is supposed to be informative and helpful to other members, I thought I might be able to help a few of them out who want to bid with Heritage and who want to get registered. That was the entire intent of my post. I was waiting for your response. It seems that everytime somone says anything positive about Heritage you are the first one to jump in and have something negative to say. That bitterness about Heritage is going to eat you up. I was thinking about adding a line to my post after my first paragraph with something like... (Okay, JR, you can quit reading now because you'll just be upset that someone is trying to assist other members who want to participate in the sale). > > You apparently have a massive problem with buyers premiums at auction houses. I have to say that at auction houses (not online sites alone) they all charge buyers premiums, (And the 15% Heritage charges is rather cheap compared to other auction houses where it is frequently 17.5% up to 22%). It is a necessary part of doing business where the auction house is able to cover the overhead of conducting the live auctions. If you don't like it, that's okay. You don't have to bid with them. Nothing is being hidden, nothing is being charged that isn't clearly spelled out in the terms and conditions of the sale. And (dare I say it???) there's nothing wrong with that!!! And by the way, JR- it is 15% not the 20% you calculated by the example you gave in your post. I think most of the people out there can calculate 15% - well, all but one I know of. At any rate, just adjust you bid accordingly and take into account the buyer's premium. > > Does that make online sites that don't charge a buyers premium any better? Are you seriously implying that? Are you seriously going to sit there and accuse the rest of the people in the hobby of being so feeble minded that they can't take the buyers premium into account? An ebay bid of $230 is the same thing as a Heritage bid of $200. It's still $230. You really need to get over it. > > As for the rest of your post, thanks for adding to the tutorial about how online bidding ends and then the floor bidding commences the following day with the live event. That was, I'm sure, very helpful to the other MoPo members who haven't participated before. > > Ron Moore > Cinema Icons > > -------------- Original message ---------------------- > From: JR <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > Um, Gee...
