Hi Michael
Just wondered who said that every poster should have a NSS number? That
seems like a very sweeping statement for anyone to make and as JR points
out, there are quite a few exceptions.
Plus I'll just second his references to LAMP - it's a marvellous source for
anyone in the hobby.

Michael,
No, not all posters have an NSS number -- those produced throughout the
years by other printing outfits besides NSS did not and all those produced
after the NSS went out of business in the mid-80's of course do not. I know
you're aware of the LAMP site -- it's always a good source of information on
stuff like this. There's a good article on the NSS and the numbering system
at:
http://www.learnaboutmovieposters.com/NewSite/INDEX/ARTICLES/nss.asp
and there's an ambitious list of NSS numbers at:
http://www.learnaboutmovieposters.com/NewSite/INDEX/ARTICLES/NSSnumberslist.asp
... it's nowhere near complete, but is the most extensive one I know of on
the internet. Bruce purchased an official NSS log book a couple of years
back that probably has a near-complete number list, but he has yet to make
it available to the public.

Subject: [MOPO] NSS numbers
1. people say that every poster must have an NSS number ??? i believe i
have some without. possible ? but, when they do, don't the following
rules apply?
2. don't all NSS numbers begin with the last 2 digits of the year first,
then followed by a dash ( - ) or a slash ( / ) or backslash ( \ ) ???
so-- wouldn't an NSS number look like 47/25 or 47/130 or 46/854 or
53-26 or 58\241 or 47-491 ???
3. many posters that I have without an NSS number sometimes contain a few
numbers on the bottom, but they have the full year: copyright 1935 then it
says 7881 /////// copyright 1939 then it says 3167 /////
copyrighted 1942 then it says 23817
4. i do not believe an NCC number merely is 561234 or 44234 (meaning a 1956
or 1944 year because of the first 2 digits)
5. IS THERE A LISTING OF ALL NSS NUMBERS ?????????? any good article????
