Wow Tom............what a great story. Sometimes the right thing to do
isn't the most profitable, but what the heck! I will be curious to see if
they figure out who it actually belonged to.

Subject: Re: [MOPO] o/t- OSCAR® has left
the building! the story can be told.
well Folks.. in what seems like ions of time... The
Oscar® i attempted to sell on ebay has been sent back to the Academy of
arts and sciences.
in beverly hills , Ca..
I thought you may
find the story interesting.... to fill you in, after the attorney from
AMPAS asked me to not sell the awrd as it may be fake
or since it had
no recipient plate we had no provenance, I said Ok ill end sale and proped
to mopo memebers the question" what is the right thing to do?
well after the ebay sale numerous people offered me cash to sell it
to them.. One a Michigan senator told me how I could legally sidestep the
law and sell another item and hand him the Award...
And guess what... I
would have loved the extra money as i could tasete it..... But then
I asked My son what he thought and he said well you always wanted to save
your trademark rights so thats all the academy is doing... made sense...
yet i wanted that big payoff!
So then i became panic
stricken,,, what if I tried to give it back and they said they didnt get
it???? so I hired a attorney.. and i said I
will
heed your advise and do whatever is deemed fair.... The academy
had offered me 2000.00 for the award that Rudy had appraised on
Antiques roadshow for 14,000.00 or morethe same month...
So... now i
had atty costs.. what made this ordeal last so Long was the Fact my
attorneys Daughter was about to have a baby....... and so
because of
the wierd circunstances My atty was not availible for several
weeks..
so yesterday I met withthe attorney and received a check
from academy legal fees of 3000.00 from
Academy afterlegal fees of 500.00
hats 2500.00 .. The
academy used thier own fed ex acct and they even supplied a Forn
fitted foam carrier... at 1sst i thought well if it doenst fit
its
surely a imposter.... well guess what??? IT FIT LIKE A GLOVE!!!
all i could think was that Johnny Cochran statement except in
my case it did fit.... If it Fits you must aquit...
So.... it
was like a priceless relic was returned home where it belongs.. No
cigar..... But was interesteing to say that I once had one of
these
items.. Now... the question whether it was real or not may never
be told as Im sure they like to keep that info secret..whats
also funny is
that everyone had the opportunity to buy him from me yet
didnt.... Gos to show that you never know where you will find Movie
memprabilia..
So finallylast week my attys Daughter had the baby.. and
so yesterday we met and packed up Oscar at his officed and he shipped it
back...
My attorney on this matter was Martin Holmes. Sr...
he is actress Katie Holmes Dad..( Katies from Toledo) .. So
as you know its been a wild month for him and the family... so I tried not
to bother him dureing that period... As we shook hands i said Martin
I knew you would understand better than anyone how crazy showbiz
is... thanks! he agreed.
and so... Thats what
happened. with the Oscar® believe it or not..
Now i have many
more items that are also loaded with historic Hollywood .. many
paper items and also a few early cinima pieces like a Mole richarson
2 K fresnel studio light from MGM circa 30s -40s on a stand 1000.00 plus
shipping its heavy, rusty But cool and original.. could have been used on
any ofthe MGM films from 30s -40s was bought when Sony puchased the
backlot of MGM in 80s?
Ill have more items on ebay soon seller
id- Dream factory
best,
Tom
