well Mopo my old boss died monday... Johnny Paris Of " Johnny and the
Hurricanes" died monday of luekemia
I was a member of the group ( guitar) in 73-74 and it was a educational
time for a 18 year old musician. I was able to see the road and make
some money and get Girls,,:) yes... its true.. I actually had some
girls... me " el clutso.".
When i met Pete Best a few years back ( the originall drummer forthe
Beatles) he told me some stories as the beatles were the opening act
for the Hurricanes at the Star Club in Hamburg Germany.... Johnny still
returned there often as the Germans liked Hurricanes material..
Last time i wasin contact was by email a few xmas ago... we emailed ...
andI was asked to do a reunion Hurricane gig locally but didnt as they
didnt have Johnny and I thought that was a stab in the back,,,,
he was a cynical person yet he taught me so much about show biz... I
called the drummer that was in the band whos in arkansas and we are the
onlyones left from the band in 73-74 the others are all dead now.....
its strange.. ill be 50 soon and its all sureeal Johnny was like 66 !!!
man.... well one time we were set to do Aistrailia with Chubby Checker
and then he decided no.... after the local paper said we were leaving on
the tour.... well,, we ended up North michigan in the snow at a isolated
place with cabins.. and wild bears walking around...
John used to tell me " If you do something Long enough you cant help
but get good.."
anyways I found out this am as a friend woke me with the news as Radio
guys are talking about it... its amazeing how we all live such a short
time... and how much time is wasted on frivolus stuff....
I guess he remarried a german woman and was raising Dogs.... in his
recent times....
well...hers some trivia...: he introduced Dick Clark tohis wife......
he dated Tina Louise ( gingerof gilligans Island)
the Hurricanes were the 1st Rock band to use a keyboard as a lead
instrument in a Rock band.. so they are really the forerunners of
electronic synthiszer Music..
well rest in peace Johnny.
best, Tom
